Rape, a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration perpetrated against a person without that person's consent. Rape can also be defined as sex you don't agree to, including forcing a body part or object into your vagina, rectum or mouth. For us to better understand the solutions to rape, it is important for us to know the causes of rape and why men rape. The following has been identified as reasons which result in men raping women Dealing with rejection, feeling superior to women, expression of power, revenge, compensation and regaining control. With that being said, one can take several steps to prevent rape (www.rapecrisis.org.za)
Step 1, one can name the real problem: violent masculinity and victim blaming. Step 2, one can re-examine and re-imagine masculinity (in this instance , this is where we ask questions like, "how can one be masculine without being violent?") . Step 3, get enthusiastic about enthusiastic consent (rather than looking for a "no", make sure there's an active "yes") Step 4, speak up for what you really want. Step 5, get media literate. Step 6, globalize your awareness of rape culture (be aware of rape culture on a global scale). Step 7, lobby your community. Step 8, tell your story, it may help the next person (www.thenation.com)
